Social Security Disability

Social security disability is for folks whom have worked in previous years and have become disabled or have suffered or are suffering from a disability and are no longer able to work for a minimum of one year or longer. If you have been employed or worked long enough at a job, which is covered under the Social Security Act, and you have become disabled, you are most likely eligible for social security disability benefits. According to the Social Security Administration, a "disability" can be anything that medically, physically, or emotionally, or a combination of disabilities that stops you from working or being employed. In order to win benefits, you must have a disability severe enough to keep you from working in regular paying employment for at least 1 year. To get or succefuly win Social Security Disability benefits, you will need the support of medical papers or have a doctor state that you are disabled and can no longer work. Your doctor's opinion should be supported by clinical findings and/or laboratory findings.

If you are receiving workers comp you may also be eligible for long term disability, also in some cases it is possible to receive both social security disability and SSI (see below).

SSI Disability

SSI Disability or supplemental security income is awarded to folks whom are below or low level income and are or have become disabled even if that person has not been employed or not employed under the social security disability provisions. SSI children disability are benefits payable to disabled children under age 18 who have limited income and resources, or who come from homes with limited income and/or resources.
